facebook like stuff

This post is for @missalysab also known as Besty.

You need to add an fb like button or box or whatever to your site. No prob. You need just a few things unless you want to get fancy. FOr this example, I am using the url for Comic Booked. A site I write for. I suggest having your own fb business page.

First off you need the javascript SDK.  Here it is:

<div id=”fb-root”></div>
<script>(function(d, s, id) {
var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0];
if (d.getElementById(id)) return;
js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id;
js.src = “//connect.facebook.net/en_US/all.js#xfbml=1&appId=442162759130698″;
fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);
}(document, ‘script’, ‘facebook-jssdk’));</script>

Place this in your site. Any place in the < body> tag. Right after the opening <body> tag is suggested by fb.

Then a like button code where you want a button to apprear. Here is the code(using the fb page for Comic Booked):

<div data-href=”http://facebook.com/comicbooked” data-send=”false” data-width=”450″ data-show-faces=”true”></div>

You can place these two bits of code anyplace on your site. Even right next to each other.

That is about it. There are more options and resources at http://developers.facebook.com/ GO there and play the options. fb gives you the code you need. Like Box, fb Comments, etc. are all there. Using Open Graph meta tags is available too to mine more data out of your visitors and site or if you want an app to interact with your site and fb. If you are feeling extra nerdy. Enjoy!
